In this work­shop we dis­cuss threat and risk assess­ment, con­tin­gency plan­ning, prac­ti­cal strate­gies to mit­i­gate risk and to pro­tect your­self in the event of an assault, legal issues, and a talk-through sce­nario to rein­force understanding.

STAFF SAFETY: INTERNATIONAL TRAVEL

While adapt­ing to unfa­mil­iar envi­ron­ments, new cul­tures, cus­toms, and laws, you, and the sen­si­tive or pro­pri­etary infor­ma­tion you may be car­ry­ing, are vul­ner­a­ble to poten­tially dan­ger­ous envi­ron­ments when trav­el­ling abroad, includ­ing injury, ill­ness, trans­port acci­dents, phys­i­cal vio­lence, crime, nat­ural dis­as­ter and ter­ror­ist threats.

In this work­shop we dis­cuss per­sonal safety and secu­rity guide­lines, and con­tin­gency plan­ning to dra­mat­i­cally reduce the vul­ner­a­bil­ity of your staff.  Par­tic­i­pants will learn strate­gies for the pre­vail­ing threats in their trav­el­ling envi­ron­ment — be it earth­quakes in New Zealand, vehi­cle acci­dents in Oman, or riots in Thai­land.  The ses­sion con­cludes with a talk-through sce­nario to rein­force understanding.

STUDENT SAFETY: INTERNATIONAL TRAVEL FOR STUDENTS

Often stu­dent trav­ellers are yet to learn from the expe­ri­ence of more sea­soned trav­ellers. Even when trav­el­ling as part of a school group, stu­dent trav­ellers are vul­ner­a­ble to poten­tially dan­ger­ous envi­ron­ments when trav­el­ling abroad, includ­ing injury, ill­ness, trans­port acci­dents, phys­i­cal vio­lence, crime, nat­ural dis­as­ter and ter­ror­ist threats.

In this work­shop we dis­cuss per­sonal safety and secu­rity guide­lines to dra­mat­i­cally reduce the vul­ner­a­bil­ity of stu­dents and staff while trav­el­ling inter­na­tion­ally.  Par­tic­i­pants will learn prac­ti­cal strate­gies for the pre­vail­ing threats in their trav­el­ling envi­ron­ment — be it bush­fires in South Africa, rob­bery in Viet­nam, or a scooter acci­dent in Thai­land.  We talk about threat and risk assess­ment in per­spec­tive, under­stand­ing the aggres­sor, pro­tect­ing your­self when fly­ing, in a vehi­cle or at your accom­mo­da­tion, and inci­dent man­age­ment.
